Business: Homemade Bun Baking
Location: East Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands
Bunstoppable Jenny lives in a rural community in East Guadalcanal with her husband and two daughters. Before she joined SPBD, her family depended solely on her husband’s taxi driving income, which unfortunately was not enough. There were periods where Jenny and her husband could not afford to buy food for their family. Determined to change her family’s economic situation, Jenny turned to a skill her mom passed down to her: bun baking. She had the recipe and the skills — the only thing she needed to start her business was financial support.
“I now contribute to our daily living expenses, and I am proud that I can put food on the table for my children, thanks to SPBD.”
With encouragement from relatives, Jenny joined SPBD’s program. After completing her new member training, including how to operate a small business, she received her first loan of $4,000 SBD ($500 USD) and launched her new bakery business. She now supplies local shops with her delicious homemade buns. Jenny’s determination and hard work paid off, and she achieved her most important goal: “I now contribute to our daily living expenses, and I am proud that I can put food on the table for my children, thanks to SPBD.”
